Larry King interviews Michael Jackson’s Attorney Tom Mesereau on “Larry King Live” on 14th June 2005

  • Thomas said that cross examination is an art that you are continuously learning and never completely master
  • Thomas said that he was confident that they would get an acquittal
  • He thought that they had really destroyed the prosecution case
  • That they had called some very effective witnesses in their defence case
  • He said that when discussing the options he never took a defeatist approach because he always thought they would win the case
  • He said that Michael was a wonderful client that he was easy to deal with, he further states that he was a honourable person
  • Thomas said that at the time of him giving his opening statement he intended that Michael would give evidence and Michael intended to do so
  • Thomas explains that it became apparent that it was not necessary to call Michael, because they had effectively cross examined the prosecution witnesses, that the had provided the jury a 2hour 45minute interview with Michael Jackson
  • He felt that they had a number of good days when dealing with the prosecution evidence and the defence evidence
  • Larry asked him if he thought the prosecution was obsessed with Michael Jackson. Thomas said that he share that view, that the prosecution had not been objective, they were not objective about their witnesses, and they were not objective about their theories. He said that their theories were not provable because they were false.
  • Thomas said that he was not sure when the obsession started, but speculated with Larry that it could have been around the time of the settlement
  • Larry asked Thomas why the prosecution had not been objective; he asked why they had made a mistake in going a head with the case. Thomas said that they never thoroughly invested the accusers and the accusers family, he said that the police had basically accepted the accusers evidence without investigating these witnesses, he said that it was really the defence who had investigator these witnesses
  • He said that Macaulay Culkin did not have to give evidence for Michael, but he wanted to
  • Thomas stated that Michael Jackson never was nor is as pedophile
  • Thomas said that the stories were concocted stories and that the prosecution tried to create the impression that other people had been molested
  • Thomas said that notion that Michael slept with boys was a concoction by the prosecution. Thomas explains that what Michael allowed was families into his room. He said that the size of his room was a two story duplex
  • He said that they did have to explain who Michael Jackson was
